How To Pray

A Prayer for All Solutions (Audio)

Dear God,
 I Love You. You created me. I live in You and You in me. Only my own unconscious guilt & belief in this ego/false personality's individual identity keeps me confused. Thank you for everything y8~1/2ou give me. Grant me the power to live in your presence, to accept your unconditional Love as I learn to forgive. Allow me to remember that You are with me always, with every breath I take, in every movement, in all thoughts, actions and feelings.

Remind me many times during the day until every second becomes another moment spent living in Your loving embrace and constant presence. Allow me to be a servant of Your will, a vehicle of Divine Love and a channel of God's will. Give me direction and Divine assistance as I surrender all personal will through devotion to You. Allow me the help to dedicate my life to the service of God. Grant me the ability to choose Love and Peace above all options while I commit to the goal of unconditional Love and Compassion for all life and all of its expressions
 as I surrender all judgment to You, God.

Make me aware that the world of my ego is a constant and tenacious tendency to react, to feel bad, guilty, mad, defeated, bored, scared, inferior, embarrassed, annoyed, lonely or superior and condescending. It gives validity to judgment regardless of the form and by reacting with judgment I feed and strengthen the ego's
world and reinforce the seeming reality of a separation from You.

Remind me constantly to view all others as my brothers, to realize that we are all one and to forgive them for they are one with me, joined in One Mind and also innocently caught in the false ego identity's world of illusion. Never let me forget that I am not this temporary body, but pure Spirit created in Your likeness, as I continue to live every moment in the knowledge that You are with me always where I am; You God,
the Alpha & Omega, the All & Everything,... The Absolute.

Choose silence, and love is apparent

When we choose silence, we choose to give up the reasons not to love, which are the reasons for going to war, or continuing war, or separating, or being a victim, or being right. In a moment of silence, in a moment of no thought, no mind, we choose to give those up. This is what my teacher invited me to.

Just choose silence. Don’t even choose love. Choose silence, and love is apparent. If we choose love we already have an idea of what love is.

But if you choose silence, that is the end of ideas. You are willing to have no idea, to see what is present when there is no idea, past, present, future. No idea of love, no idea of truth, no idea of you, no idea of me. Love is apparent.

The Spiritual Direction

“It is helpful to remember that neither Truth nor Enlightenment is something to be found, sought, acquired, gained, or possessed.  That which is the Infinite Presence is always present and its realization occurs of itself when the obstacles to that realization are removed.  It is therefore not necessary to study the truth but only to let go of that which is fallacious.  Moving away the clouds does not cause the sun to shine but merely reveals that which was hidden all along.  Spiritual work, therefore, is primarily a letting go of the presumably known for the unknown, with the promise of others who have done it that the effort is more than well rewarded at the end.  On the earthly level, gold is not created but merely revealed by chipping away that which obscures it.”

(The Eye of the Eye, p. 117)

 What the ego cannot lift with all its might is like a feather to the Grace of God.”
Dr.David R. Hawkins

Dr. Hawkins saying, to paraphrase, "You are not an ego, you have an ego" and "You are not the content of consciousness, you are consciousness itself". These two phrases are to me the crux of the entire teaching and are pointing at an inner subjective experience that can potentially present itself in the subjectivity of a student. On page 211 of Discovery of the Presence of God, there begins chapter 13 which is entitled "Transcending the identification with the ego/self". The first paragraph proceeds thusly, "This subject is the core of all spiritual endeavors. The undoing of the identification with the ego/self is the primary focus of  spiritual evolution and is the enigma that has baffled even the most erudite minds of history. The crux of the problem is misidentification with qualities of the ego/mind processing function already identified with the linearity of the localization of the phenomena. This is a natural consequence associated with the physical reality of the experience of life as a body. The primary problem is misidentification of the actual source of subjectivity and the presumption that it is local rather than nonlocal."

   As I reflect upon this concept of "identification with the ego/self", it is apparent that there is a "something", a "what-ness", that which I really am, that has become identified with the "ego/self" and believes itself to be the "ego/self". A continuing focus is the recognition within my own consciousness of what exactly is meant by the word "ego" as used by Dr. Hawkins, actually noticing it within. In my experience, Dr. Hawkins has explained the "anatomy" of the ego in incredible detail, and applying this within it can be noticed, and indeed witnessed. The noticing and witnessing of the activities of the ego within, begins to make it clear that indeed one is not the ego, but that one has an ego and this ego is what is being observed. Maintaining this witnessing position is the current intention.

  At this point, experientially I notice two subjective states, one is where "that which I am" is witnessing the ego and the other is where "that which I am" is lost in the ego, immersed in rumination, mentation and emotional "juicing". Until somewhat recently, being lost in the ego was the prevailing state, but progressively the state of witnessing the ego is becoming more prevalent. Said another way, even though one is so-called "awake" and up walking around and interacting with the world, one can either be "conscious" or "unconscious" . It seems analogous to a "play", whereby one is either sitting in the audience watching the play(conscious) or one is on stage, lost in the role within the play(unconscious) . To my understanding and in my experience, this state of being "unconscious" and lost in the ego is the default state of most of humanity, but when conditions are favorable, it is possible for an "individual consciousness" to shift from this default state to a completely different mode of functioning.
  ! ; Referr ing to Jeff's post, the Freudian terms "id" and "super-ego", are to my understanding simply aspects of the "content of consciousness" . On page 54 of "I,Reality and Subjectivity" , Dr. Hawkins writes, "Unknowingly, an aspect of the self splits off and becomes the inner enemy, the victimizer/attacker , and the author of guilt, remorse, fear, and the relentless self-judge". So, the way I currently look at it is that what is termed "id" and what is called "super-ego" are both part of the same overall phenomena, namely the ego.
   On page 397 of "I, Realty and Subjectivity, is the following question and answer: Q: Is the ego thus both victim and perpetrator? A: That is correct. The ego is the victim of itself. With rigorous introspection, it will be discovered that the ego is really just 'running a racket' for its own fun and games and survival. The real 'you' is actually the loser." If I am lost in, immersed in, and identified with the ego, then I am the "loser" in the above quote and that is what I will be experiencing. What is this "real you" Dr. Hawkins is referring to? This is an interesting thing to contemplate and reflect upon, with the intention of actually subjectively experiencing it, as compared to intellectualizing about it. It can be seen at times, that experientially, one is simply an impersonal quality that can be referred to by the word "awareness" or perhaps "attention". Fun stuff! No Jeff, you are not the devil. That would be nothing more than an idea the ego is trying! to sell you as it "runs its racket". I recall Dr. Hawkins once saying in a lecture, "The ego proliferates endless BS!" Ain't that a crackup!! Blessings, Russ

~~~~~~~~~~~
In the August 2003 lecture entitled "Enlightenment" , Dr. Hawkins presents a chart which he refers to as the "-izing" chart.  As I recall, he points out that about 98 percent of the mind is silent but we are hypnotized by the remaining 2 percent. The processes going on in the mind that we are hypnotized by are then listed on the chart. They are, politicize, moralize, idealize, hypothesize, romanticize, criticize, dramatize, catastrophize, theorize, rationalize, fantisize, infantilize, intellectualize, mentalize, glamorize, demonize, prize and victimize. The chart concludes with the statement, "The wise transcend the ize and the seduction of the thoughts and images to hypnotize".
      From personal experience, I can see how "my attention" can easily get hooked by and drawn into any of the examples of "izing" and that this has been happening for as long as I can remember. When the attention gets "lost in" or "immersed in" any of these inner processes, this is when "juicing" goes on. The automatic nature of this "getting lost" in the 2 percent and the inner state that ensues, would seem to be this "altered state of consciousness" Jaya is referring to from the December 2007 lecture, "The Mystic" and which Dr. Hawkins referred to in the August 2003 lecture as being hypnotized. Certainly, when one suddenly realizes that one has been lost in some juicy "izing" for some unknown length of time, it is like one had previously been hypnotized or was in an "altered state of consciousness" . In my experience, this "sudden realization" or "spontaneous waking up", happens of its own and no "personal self" decided to "wake up". This seems to be one of the miraculous "happenings" that seems to be influenced by intention and prayer. Once I became aware that there was something possible other than the "hypnotized" state, my focus was on shifting to this other state of consciousness by the application of intention and prayer.
   In a lecture given at the Unity church in Phoenix in 2005, Dr. Hawkins stated,"So by ones inner commitment and alignment one brings about, because what you hold in mind tends to manifest. So you hold in mind the state of consciousness to which you aspire, to which you wish to realize within yourself. Its already present, its just that you haven't realized it, so what you're asking for is that the blocks to that awareness be removed. Because the infinite state is not an acquisition, its what prevails when that which blocks its awareness is removed. When all sound stops, you don't have to create silence, silence is the basic condition, you just remove that which obscures it and then you hear the silence, and if you're spiritually evolved you hear the silence even if there is noise".
These are some of the teachings from Dr. Hawkins that have been and continue to be profoundly useful to me and I hope others will also benefit from them.
